چکیده

Analytic solutions to the mathematical model of an electrochemical capacitor (EC) are used to study cell performance under two types of operating conditions: (i) constant current and (ii) electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The analytic solution under constant-current operation is used to investigate the relative importance of ionic resistance in the separator, and ionic and electronic resistances in the porous electrode in the design and operation of an EC. Model results are presented that show the trade-off between energy and power density, as the physical properties of the cell components are varied (e.g., electrode thickness). The analytic solution is also used to study the effect of cell design and operation on the heat generation during constant-current cycling. The impedance model is presented as an alternative to equivalent-circuit models for data analysis. The analytic solution can be used to gain a physical understanding of the various processes that occur in an EC. © 1999 The Electrochemical Society. S0013-4651(98)08-081-1. All rights reserved.

Modeling the Effects of Electrode Composition and Pore Structure on the Performance of Electrochemical Capacitors

This work presents a mathematical model for charge/discharge of electrochemical capacitors that explicitly accounts for particlepacking effects in a composite electrochemical capacitor consisting of hydrous RuO2 nanoparticles dispersed within porous activated carbon. The model is also used to investigate the effect of nonuniform distributions of salt in the electrolyte phase of the electrode in...

Materials for electrochemical capacitors.

Electrochemical capacitors, also called supercapacitors, store energy using either ion adsorption (electrochemical double layer capacitors) or fast surface redox reactions (pseudo-capacitors). They can complement or replace batteries in electrical energy storage and harvesting applications, when high power delivery or uptake is needed. A notable improvement in performance has been achieved thro...

Preparation and Characterization of Reduced Graphene Oxide Doped in Sol-Gel Derived Silica for Application in Electrochemical Double-Layer Capacitors

In this study, a new graphene ceramic composite (GCC) was prepared based on the reduced grapheneoxide (rGO) doped in sol-gel derived silica. The GCC was prepared by dispersing rGO nanosheets intothe sol-gel precursors containing methyl triethoxysilane, methanol and hydrochloric acid solution.During an acid catalyzed hydrolyze reaction and gelation proc...

Charge storage mechanism in nanoporous carbons and its consequence for electrical double layer capacitors.

Electrochemical capacitors, also known as supercapacitors, are energy storage devices that fill the gap between batteries and dielectric capacitors. Thanks to their unique features, they have a key role to play in energy storage and harvesting, acting as a complement to or even a replacement of batteries which has already been achieved in various applications. One of the challenges in the super...
